Chapter Eleven

Every bit of Farrah felt languid and a bit sore. She stretched and got hit with an aftershock. She let out a soft moan, trembled at all the remembered instances of Micah's mouth on her, somewhere...everywhere.

Micah may not have been her first, but he would go down as her best. She smiled, opened her eyes, and there he was. The culprit for all the aches and aftershocks. Arms crossed, he smirked down at her. His brown eyes filled with their own remembrances and the look, the glimpse, heated her blood again.

Who knew her friend had such skills, stamina, and creativeness in bed? She wanted to do it all over again and make those light aches scream in pain and pleasure.

“What was the thought that just crossed your mind?” He sounded pleased and extremely cocky.

She buried her face in the pillow in an attempt to wipe off the smile. The damn thing couldn't be helped so she glanced his way again. “Thinking about breakfast.”

More knowledge than any man should have flashed behind his gaze. “And that's it?”

“Yup,” she said, grinning. “You know it's universally accepted as creepy to watch a woman sleeping.”

He chuckled. “I wasn't, but you started to make these noises that drew my attention.”

Farrah yawned. “So what had you up?” She grappled for her phone on the night stand. 6:30 a.m. Too early.

Silence greeted her question and then he said, “The business you should run.”

She stiffened, because the playfulness had left his tone. Wary, she took in his face. Brimstone brow. Clenched jawline. No humor tugging a smile at his lips. He was dead serious. Any leftover goodwill vanished. Goosebumps prickled her skin, leaving her cold, and she had to pull the cover up to find some warmth.

“Yeah, that,” she replied.

He pushed the sheet down to his waist. “I've been thinking about the best way you should go about it.”

She made a noncommittal noise. Apparently that was enough to get him started. He went on, for who knows how long, about permits, clients, promotion, and marketing. Nothing like the conversation she would have imagined after a night of sex with Micah. After the way he talked to her, touched and made love to her again and again, he wanted to talk about a business venture?

The more he went on, excited and already invested about the idea of her being a sole proprietor, the more it became crystalline clear last night changed nothing for him. Just like when they were in school and he had set his sights on becoming valedictorian or getting summa cum laude in college. Everything else fell away. Social life? Who needs one. Sleep? When I'm dead, I'll get plenty. Studying mattered. Passing the next test or assignment overruled all else.

Getting Farrah into bed... She pressed her hot face into the pillow as tears threatened to fall. He wasn't callous. That was the problem. Micah could be thoughtful to a fault. But she'd become something that needed to be conquered. She'd been compartmentalized, one of the things on his to-do list.
